Prosthetic Device
EVAL
When your physician thinks you are ready to be fit with a prosthesis and M-Power has received the order, you will be contacted to schedule your evaluation. During this visit, you will talk in depth with your prosthetist about your general health, lifestyle, work, hobbies and goals for using your prosthesis. If you are a previous prosthetic user, please bring your device to your appointment. Try to wear loose comfortable clothing that allows inspection of your residual limb. The prosthetist will then make a recommendation for a prosthetic design that will facilitate your expectations and abilities and forward to both your physician and insurance carrier for consideration and authorization.
CASTING AND FITTING
Once authorization has been obtained we will begin the measuring and casting process. We will use the cast of your limb, along with recorded measurements to build your prosthesis. The first step is fitting a diagnostic socket, a clear plastic socket that allows us to actually see where the socket fits well and where modifications are required. This ability, coupled with your feedback enables us to fine tune the fit, comfort and function of the device. We will align the prosthesis as you walk to maximize safety and optimize walking. Once we have ensured the most favorable fit and alignment, we will proceed with the final fabrication of the device.
DELIVERY AND FOLLOW UP
When you come to the office to accept delivery of your device, we will review all of the features of the prosthesis and ensure you know how to provide the proper care and use of your device and supplies. We will establish a wearing schedule, to get you used to incorporating the prosthesis into your daily routine. Most prosthetic users will benefit from Physical Therapy and we welcome the opportunity to work with your therapist to perfect your alignment and help you achieve your goals.
You will return to the office for routine follow ups, adjustments and/or repairs as needed. Contact our office if you have any questions or concerns as soon as possible.
